AGLIME

What It Does

“Aglime is a natural soil remedy, bolstering crop yields through a number of benefits: balances soil pH and chemistry, slows the leaching of fertilizers below the root zone, improves soil tilth, promotes deeper root growth in dry conditions, improves soil drainage in wet conditions, and reduces amount of nitrates and fertilizer which in turn helps to keep water supplies clean and healthy.”

ANIMAL FEED SUPPLEMENTS

What It Does

Remember when your mom would tell you to drink milk so your bones would grow strong? Animals also need calcium for bone development. In addition to bone strength, calcium carbonate provides necessary nutrients for egg-shell formation, milk production and the absorption of nutrients.

GLASS

What It Does

Calcium carbonate stabilizes glass and improves its quality and physical appearance. Calcium carbonate processed at Rogers Group Specialty Products is ideal for glass manufacturing because of it’s consistency and purity.

COAL MINING

What It Does

Coal dust explosions are prevented by adding calcium carbonate to the roof, ribs and floor of coal mines. This helps prevent explosions from propagating through a mine. If an explosion occurs, our rock dust mixes in the air with coal dust and neutralizes the coal dust to prevent further combustion.

ROOFING MATERIALS

What It Does

Adding calcium carbonate to asphalt compound improves the fire retardation, adhesion, strength, durability, color consistency and weight in asphalt roofing materials.

ASPHALT PAVEMENT

What It Does

By properly using mineral filler, improvements to asphalt pavements are made by increasing density, durability, skid resistance, and stability.

POWER PLANTS

What It Does

In coal-fired power plants, calcium carbonate is used in the smokestacks to absorb sulfur dioxide emissions and filter fine particulates from the air. Once the pulverized limestone reacts with sulfur dioxide, it can be disposed of as solid waste.

GOLF COURSE MATERIAL

What It Does

The light gray appearance of calcium carbonate bunker sand is a preferred alternative to river sand because of its aesthetic nature. Calcium carbonate bunker sand also improves drainage, which improves playability.

Concrete

What It Does

Mineral filler improves the workability and strength of concrete. Calcium carbonate mineral filler also increases density and rate of hydration while decreasing permeability, bleeding, and setting time. It often improves microstructure and particle packing, which can reduce the amount of cement required without losing strength.

Cement

What It Does

Calcium carbonate mineral filler is an additive in cement that reduces the carbon footprint of cement clinker.

Roof Bolt Resin

What It Does

In underground mines, maintaining the integrity of the roof support is critical. Boreholes are drilled upward in the roof and the inserted bolts are anchored by roof bolt resin. Mineral filler is a large component of the resin. The consistency of this product is paramount to mine safety.

Zinc Manufacturing

What It Does

The zinc refining industry uses calcium carbonate as a neutralizing agent that raises the pH of a zinc-containing acidic solution to precipitate solid zinc.

Fiberglass Manufacturing

What It Does

Calcium carbonate is a primary ingredient used in fiberglass manufacturing to lower the melting temperature of silica sand, stabilize the glass, increase the hardness and chemical durability, improve handling and formability, and aids to avoid devitrification that causes clouding and other defects.
